Do you ever get a song stuck in your head? I currently have one of the songs from Jennifer Berezan’s album “Returning” playing in mine. Its rich, hypnotic, repeating rhythms echo in my mind, the perfect background for my current chant “<breathe in> Lakshmi <breathe out> Wealth <breathe in> Lakshmi <breathe out> Wealth …” Lakshmi is a Hindu Goddess of Abundance and Prosperity, one of the aspects of the Divine. I hear the words of this meditation as a song.

The chant can really be “Divine – Abundance,” the name of the Goddess is just a focusing device. But there’s something about why we have so many Gods & Goddesses in the world, to make the aspects real. All the Divine show up as omnipotent; it would be nice if they also showed up as reliable. Or perhaps I have a trust issue? Hmmm…maybe. Or maybe Life just isn’t that reliable, and the reason we as humans have created all of these aspects is to help explain the unexplainable.

Actually, given the number of water-based images I have in my meditations, I beginning to wonder if there’s something in my emotions to look at (water being an archetypal symbol for the emotions). I’m sure I need to. A friend of mine gave me the Prosperity Angel off of her altar to put onto mine. I’m feeling a huge emotion about that: I’m terrified that I might break it! Is that an indication of how I feel about Prosperity in general, that if given to me and accepted, that I might somehow break it? How can you “break” abundance?
