Heart and mind – together again! The relationship bumbles around for awhile, like many new relationships, seeking boundaries and similarities. My mind thinks that there’s some Truth “out there”, and if I can just logic my way to it, enlightenment will come. My heart feels that Truth surrounds us all, and permeates us, and has no limits; enlightenment has already happened, and unfolds in new ways every second.
The abundance view says that the supply is unlimited. There is way more food, money, clothing and shelter available every day than I or anyone else can possibly use. It would be really cool if we could have a money-clothes-food party every day: no concept of value, for in need, all is valuable; if no need, nothing is valuable. Money would then become redundant. So, maybe we just have a clothes-food party. Everyone brings clothing and/or food to a central receiving area, and can take whatever they can use. The “use” part has always been the hardest to manage. It comes down to fear & love again: greed is motivated by fear (the mind says “what if there isn’t/won’t be enough??”), and can only be “cured” through love.
In previous attempts at this system, greed got in early on, and love was rejected even earlier. Somehow, people got the idea that in order to make the system fly, rationalism (the mind) was the key. Get rid of “sloppy sentimentalism.” Forgetting, of course, that the heart motivates survival, not the mind. Babies trigger oxytocin, a hormone that fosters bonding among us primates. Without the feeling of bonding (otherwise known as love), babies wouldn’t survive all those long, difficult, developmental years. We would have no society. A really clever ruler would foster (not force!) bonding amongst everyone, rather than fear. It’s easier, lasts longer, keeps the work force healthier, the benefits go on and on. Then Love truly does become the supply.
